FIVE WEEKS FOCUSING ON HUNGER IN OUR COMMUNITIES
Prodisee Pantry has organized a series of events wrapped around the photographic and audio exhibit About Hunger & Resilience by Michael Nye at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope. As the largest emergency food program in Baldwin County, Alabama, Prodisee Pantry, located in Spanish Fort, Alabama, is providing the most basic of needs to some 10,000 families annually: food and a warm smile. Each week volunteers provide some 175 families in crisis approximately $120 worth of nutritious fresh, frozen and staple groceries.
Hunger is not something most of us think about each day, but for a growing number hunger is becoming a reality. Prodisee Pantry Executive Director, Deann Servos says, we brought this exhibit to Baldwin County to raise awareness, that it truly is about hunger for many local residents. Prodisee Pantry worked with the nationally-known artist over a two year period with four area families sharing their stories. Each is powerful, moving and inspiring for a multitude of reasons. This exhibit allows the visitor to the Eastern Shore Art Center to look deep into the eyes of hunger and hear the stories in each persons own voice.
All proceeds will benefit Prodisee Pantry. Prodisee Pantry is a faith-based non-profit that provides love, hope and comfort to Baldwin County families in crisis through emergency food, disaster relief, referrals and partnerships. It has provided food assistance to over 27,000 Baldwin County families facing hardship stemming from job loss, medical expenses, natural disasters and other crisis. In August, volunteers gave 830 Baldwin County families fresh, frozen and staple groceries.
