Domestic violence touches thousands of lives each year in North Alabama. In Huntsville alone, police responded to nearly 4000 domestic violence complaints last year. Each year someone we know or live near dies because of it; but even with shocking statistics and even more shocking headlines about people beaten to death in front of their children or set afire and burned alive, we underestimate the danger it poses to our community.
If we think someone we know is a victim, we’re too uncomfortable to talk about it. Even if we ourselves are the victims, we deny it. Or we say to ourselves, it’s not really that bad. But it is. Just imagine what happens to children in violent families. If you are a victim, please take it seriously. You’re in grave danger and despite what you’ve been told, it’s not your fault. But there is hope. There are people who care and who can help you at HOPE Place. All you have to do is call.

HELPline (Crisis Line)
A crisis can occur in anyone's life when too many stresses occur at once. Crisis intervention is emotional first aid for those times when a person becomes temporarily unable to cope. HELPline Counselors are trained to respond to such concerns as depression, loneliness, domestic violence and suicide. Referrals are made where other sources of help are needed. All calls are confidential.
Victims of rape or sexual assault should not have to cope with the aftermath alone. The Rape Response program provides volunteer advocates to assist victims through emotional support, hospital and court accompaniment and referrals.
The Survivors of Rape Support Group meets weekly and offers participants a supportive group experience in overcoming the effects of trauma.
