Fort Morgan is a 22 mile peninsula located west of Gulf Shores with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Mobile Bay on the other. Fort Morgan appeals to families who enjoy the natural beauty of our coastal beaches away from the busy tourist area "but only 10-20 minutes" from Gulf Shores.
Large open white sandy beaches offer plenty of opportunity for strolling, sun bathing, shell hunting, golf, surf fishing, or swimming in the Gulf waters.
Restaurants, golf courses (Kiva Dunes and The Peninsula are just two courses located on Fort Morgan Road), convenient stores and excellent fishing are available as well as Historic Fort Morgan where Admiral David Farragut gave his rousing command "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
Swimming advisory issued
The Alabama Department of Public Health has issued a swimming advisory for the waters off Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fort Morgan effective today. A swimming advisory means that individuals are discouraged from swimming in the affected waters. However, it does not mean the beaches are closed. Visitors are still welcome to sunbathe and walk the beach, but we suggest they swim in a pool or enjoy our many off-beach activities.
Additionally, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has closed all state waters in the gulf and some inshore areas for fishing. The pier at Gulf State Park will be closed for fishing effective at 6 p.m., but will remain open to sightseers.
Dear Reed Guest,
I would like to again thank you all for all of the wonderful prayers, thoughts, and concerns about us and our beautiful beaches! They have definitely been working. In looking at the latest projections from NOAA, it looks like the oil spill is drifting away from our beaches. Of course we hate for anyone to be impacted by this tragedy but are relieved to see it moving away.
REVISED POLICY INFORMATION
Due to the latest news and projections, Reed Real Estate is implementing a new "revised" prepayment policy for our reserved guests arriving before July 3, 2010. For reserved guests arriving July 3, 2010 and after- The original Reed policy (before the oil spill) was full payment required 30 days prior to arrival with a 30 day cancellation period does go back into effect.
For Guests arriving from now until July 3, 2010:
The last email that was sent out on May 6 stated "As of right now, all requirements for full payment in advance have been removed. If you have a reservation arriving before June 26, 2010, we are not requiring full balances to be paid 30 days prior. After this point, we will know what the situation is as a result of the oil spill and its impact on our area."
Well, we have come into some problems with the revised policy already with many "no shows" and longer lines at check in. Therefore, considering the most recent "positive" projections for our area, we are requiring full payment to be made 14 days prior to your arrival and now have a 14 day cancellation period. Please remember that the trip insurance premium must be paid with your final payment if you choose to purchase this coverage. The trip insurance will cover cancellations (within the 14 day cancellation period) due to unforseen issues such as Hurricanes, illness, etc. As always, we highly suggest purchasing trip insurance to protect your rental investment.
The trip insurance company (CSA) will not cover any refunds regarding cancellation or early departures due to the oil spill but Reed Real Estate will issue refunds if your stay is affected. For ALL future reservations, regardless of your arrival date, We are guaranteeing that when you arrive, if you are not 100% satisfied with the beaches or surrounding areas (due to any negative effects from the oil spill), we will refund your full rental payment minus the $30 processing fee and trip insurance premium (if paid). If your stay is interrupted by any negative effects as a result of the oil spill, we will reimburse any unused portion of your rent.
All terms of the rental agreement you signed and returned to us still hold true. The only change is the credit card on file will automatically be charged the remaining balance on or around 14 days prior to your arrival date (if arriving before July 3, 2010) unless another form of payment has been requested.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused. After much debating, we decided to go to the 14 day prepayment and cancellation policy due to the most recent "positive" projections for our area. Please understand that we are doing our best to best fit our rental policies with the issues at hand. When the first email was sent on May 6 with the "no prepayment required" policy change, we had no clue what impact we were going to have on our area as a result of the oil spill. Now, here we are apx 2 weeks later, and our beaches are not even in the "area of uncertainty" on the 72 hour oil trajectory map from NOAA.
We appreciate your patience with us during this time and look forward to seeing you! Our beaches are as beautiful as ever! The photo at the top of this email was taken today. I will also include some additional pics taken over the last few days below for reassurance.
