A History of Excellence
When Dr. Furnie W. Johnston opened his practice in Dothan, Alabama in 1962, he was the first orthopaedic specialist to practice in that city. But Dr. Johnston did more than bring a new medical specialty to the people of the Wiregrass area – he laid an important stone in the foundation of the Dothan health care community. The 1970s were a boom period for Dothan, and Dr. Johnston's practice grew along with the city. By 1995, it had become the largest orthopaedic specialty practice in the state at that time – Southern Bone & Joint Specialists.
Today, Southern Bone & Joint Specialists continues to be a foundational element in the Dothan medical community. It is committed to providing quality, innovative, comprehensive orthopaedic care to the Wiregrass and surrounding areas into the 21st Century.
