We have seen a proliferation of teaching on spiritual warfare in the last couple of decades. I am certainly not saying that is a bad thing. The Body of Christ needs to be reminded at every turn that she is engaged in a very real war with life and death hanging in the balance. We have learned how to war with our prophecies and this is certainly scriptural and relevant. We have learned in our worship how to enter into a spiritual realm through militant songs and beats; how to wave banners under the direction of the Holy Spirit. These are all good and necessary, but they must not be all we do.
We must not limit ourselves simply to the study of spiritual mapping and strategically warring in the heavenlies. We know the importance of air support and air bombardment in physical combat and that it is equally important in spiritual warfare, but ultimately it is the foot soldier who pulls the enemy from his foxholes and occupies his territory. We must also not be satisfied with just a good feeling about our spiritual warring; we must have measurable results.
For instance if we cast down the strong man of murder over a city we should be able to see a definable, measurable, decline in the number of murders taking place. Also, it is not enough just to do warfare, we must become warriors. A People who will do whatever it takes to advance the cause of Christ in our cities. A People who will contest and contend with the enemy for every lost soul. Our mission is to liberate the men and women held captive by the wicked one. Christ has made us to be more than conqueror’s, but there can be no conquest without fighting and there will be know fighting without warriors. You be that Warrior for King Jesus.
I often find myself amazed at Christians who have not been taught to do the Word of God. The Scripture in James 1:23 warns us, "But be doers of the Word and not heares only, deceiving yourselves." I don't believe people take this warning seriously enough. What is the Lord saying to us through this scripture? The simple answer is, just what He said. In other words, a person can go to church hear good solid preaching, walk out the door and not put that word into action and it will bring about a deception in that persons life.
What is the deception? A great part of it is people have equated knowing the scriptures with actually doing them. They seem to believe that God's judgments are based upon their knowledge of the scriptures and not their obedience to the Word of God. A Minister, Curry Blake, whom I have great admiration for has stated, "When your knowledge of the Word of God exceeds your obedience to the Word of God you are backslidden." I believe that to be a true statement. These Christians often tell on themselves by their words. You ask them if they are doing something such as forgiving a brother or sister who has wronged them or sharing their faith with others and instead of answering the question they say something like, "Oh, I already know that, brother so and so taught us that."
These Christians seem to think at the judgment seat of Christ, Jesus is going to pass out a written exam and if they get a high enough score they will get a great reward from the Lord. Remember the Lord does not say, well done good and faithful servant you know a great deal of my word and I am impressed. He does say, well done to the servant who was faithful to do what He knew to do.
How can we know we are doers of the Word and not just hearers only? One easy test is to ask yourself, are you blessed? The Word declares that the doer of the Word is blessed. God has given us many promises to make us effective and blessed Christians. Everyone of those promises has a part where we need to do something to activate that promise in our lives, we usually call it the condition. Brothers and Sisters let us determine we are going to be doers and not hearers only. Be blessed, for now you know how.
We all know that Nike has made the above caption famous. What is truly amazing is I believe the Lord often speaks to us His children through the voice of the world. I know that statement many not make sense at first, but have you ever seen a newspaper headline and it just jumps into your spirit or brings a scripture racing into your mind?
I truly believe for many of us this New Year is the time for us to simply, "just do it." Just do that thing, or things you have always felt if you would do, that it would take you into the next dimension in Christ. For many that may be an extended fast, or rising earlier, or spending a certain amount of time in intense Bible study. For some it may be more time in soaking prayer and worship and again for others finally making yourself witness to your friends and lost loved ones. Whatever that thing is has probably been in your heart for years now and it is that thing you were always going to do, but never did.
Well, this year let's move from going to do, to being done. Just do it! If it has been in your heart all these years then you have to ask yourself why? Who put this desire in you? Why is it so hard to do this one thing? Let me encourage you to not despise the day of small beginnings. Just do that one thing and see how God takes your act of obedience and brings huge dividends out of it for the advancement of the Kingdom of God and for you as well.
We live in a politically correct age where it seems everyone must mind their p’s and q’s. We have seen several men in the media lose their careers over saying something that society has deemed socially, racially, or religiously intolerant. The thing is seems most feared in America today is for one to be considered narrow minded, or heaven forbid, intolerant.
But have you noticed that the very people who are so tolerant of gay lifestyles, or pardon me, alternative life styles; are not at all tolerant of your view, and mine, that Homosexuality is a sin. They seem somewhat, dare I say it, narrow minded about the biblical view that this life choice is a sin; as is the choice to commit adultery, or fornication. They do not seem to care when we point out that God so loved the homosexual, adulterer, and fornicator that He sent His only begotten Son to pay the full price for their sins. They just simply will not tolerate us calling any lifestyle they enjoy, sin. Seems very intolerant doesn’t it?
So, back to the question, are you or can you be a politically correct Christian? Was Jesus politically correct? I don’t think so. Jesus seemed to run afoul of the political system of the Romans as well as the political system of the Jews. He infuriated the religious Pharisees, the Sadducees, as well as the Herodians. Poor Jesus, it seems the only one He could please was His heavenly Father. The truth is we cannot please the world and please the Father too. My suggestion is for us not to even try, lets just please God and speak the truth in love.
