This summer, the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation (ACJF) had the privilege of partnering with the Alabama Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) to provide Alabama teachers and students with the Scholastic® Justice by the People program, a program designed to teach Alabama students all about the mechanics of the U.S. government and legal systems. This outstanding program is a phenomenal resource for teachers who are looking to expand the curriculum for Grades 5 – 7 beyond a simple civics, history, and language arts lesson for Constitution Day on September 17th. The Justice by the People Program includes free teaching materials, fun lessons and quizzes, and interactive games. Schools across the state received information about this valuable curriculum through the efforts of both organizations and, in some regions, ACJF and ABOTA have identified and trained attorneys who have volunteered to take part in this unique effort.
Below are the lists of the middle schools in the state of Alabama as well as a list of attorneys who have volunteered to visit middle schools in their local areas.
Please contact us at info@acjf.org to let us know which middle schools will be hosting which attorney volunteers. Thank you.

ACJF is proud to announce its 2009 Pioneer of Justice Honoree: Sen. Howell Heflin, a man who made a lasting effect on his community, his profession, this state and this nation.
The Pioneers of Justice Society honors the legacy of Alabama attorneys who revolutionized the justice system. Through this special tribute, ACJF recognizes those who helped create a just and caring society to protect the rights of all people regardless of gender, socioeconomic status, religion or race.
As an attorney, Sen. Heflin had many accomplishments such as being President of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association as well as President of the Alabama Bar Association. In his many years of public service as a World War II Veteran, Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and his esteemed service in the U.S. Senate, he was a man of great principle who believed in bipartisanship and cared deeply about the condition of all people. more>>
