The Church at South Baldwin Welcomes You
This church is a congregation of people striving to be identical with those you read about in the New Testament, such as “the church of God which is at Corinth” (1 Cor. 1:1), “the churches of Galatia” (Gal 1:2), and “the churches of Christ salute you” (Rom. 16:16). It is composed of people who are members of the body of Christ-the original church, which had its beginning on the first Pentecost following the resurrection of Christ (Acts 2).
This congregation is a body of baptized believers, in which the Spirit of Christ dwells (1 Cor. 3:16), and over which He rules as the supreme head (Eph 1:22-23, Col 1:18).
We find in Christ salvation for the lost (Acts 2:47; Eph. 5:25), refuge for the weary (Matt. 11:28-30; John 14:6), and eternal hope for those who die in fellowship with Him (Rev. 2:10; 14:13). We have no creed but the Bible (1 Pet 4:11), no captain but Christ (Heb 2:10), no name but the divine (Acts 11:26; Rom 16:16), and no aim but to save (Acts 2:47). This congregation pleads for the all-sufficiency of the church to do all its work, unity in Christ (John 17:20-21), spirituality in worship (John 4:24), purity in life (Titus 2:11-12), and New Testament authority for everything believed, taught, or practiced in religion (Col.3:17).
We accept the Bible, the whole Bible, and nothing but the Bible as our all-sufficient rule of faith and practice. We accept the teaching of Christ as delivered through His apostles and prophets not only as the source of authority, but the limit of what is authorized. We reject all human creeds and human opinions as instruments of division and abominable to God (Prov. 6:19).
The members of this congregation are neither Catholic, Protestant, nor Jewish, but rather simple New Testament Christians (Acts 11:26). They are thankful for the exalted privilege of membership in the blood-bought (Acts 20:28), heaven-born, Spirit-filled, and eternally purposed organism (Eph. 3:10-11; 1 Cor. 3:16)the body of Christ. To its defense we are dedicated and to its service our lives are consecrated. It is our desire that the church of our Lord will ultimately supersede all humanly devised denominational bodies, and that the world will be united in Christ, rather than divided into the current parties and sects of men. To this end our lives and prayers are willingly consecrated.
Membership in the spiritual body of Christ is obtainable by simple obedience to the gospel of Christ. According to Him, one must:
Believe in Him as the Christ (John 8:44; Rom. 10:10).
Be baptized in water for the remission of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21; Gal. 3:26-27).
We cordially invite you to all our assemblies, and welcome your questions about anything we do, say or believe. We have nothing to hide, and obligate ourselves to produce book, chapter and verse for everything we teach, believe or practice or we will renounce it. We are determined to practice nothing else than pure New Testament Christianity (Gal. 1:8-9; 1 Peter 4:11).
Our Bible classes are just what the name impliesstudies in the text of the Bible. The church does not teach handicraft or provide any kind of recreation for anyone at any time. These are works of the home, not the church.
Our worship is simple and spiritual rather than ritualistic (John 4:24). It consists not of elaborate ceremonies and pageantry, but of Bible study (Acts 2:42), congregational singing (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16), prayer (Acts 2:42), communion (Acts 2:42; 20:7; 1 Cor. 11:23-29), and contributing of our means as we have been prospered (1 Cor. 16:1-2).
Should you be interested in learning more about the Bible, we invite you to please call 943-2686, and request a series of Bible studies at a time and place convenient to you. Just leave your name and phone number and we will get in touch with you. We assure you that you will be under no obligation, and you can terminate the studies at any time you desire.
You can be sure that this is not an offer to teach the tenets of some human creed, nor a clever way to promote some human denomination. We are interested only in a study of the Word of God, and extending the borders of His Kingdom, rather than building up or multiplying sinful parties and sects (1 Cor. 1:10).
