Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham, Alabama, a Welcoming Congregation that honors differences of belief. We support free religious thought, unbound by creeds or doctrine, and we welcome people from all religious backgrounds. The church is dedicated to justice, morality and freedom. We are more interested in getting heaven into people than getting people into heaven.
In fulfilling our mission, our church offers ministry, education and social action to benefit the community at large. Social events foster friendships and emotional support among members and friends of the congregation. We're a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, or UUA.
Browse through our pages and come visit with us. We think you'll find us unique among Birmingham churches. We think you'll feel right at home.
A Special Welcome to First-time Visitors:
We're glad you're visiting with us online and hope you'll take the next step, to come visit with us during our Sunday worship services or other church events. We celebrate our rich diversity and we welcome people from all walks of life, all religious backgrounds, all races, all sexual orientations.
We've been in the Birmingham area for more than 50 years, and have earned an outstanding reputation for longstanding involvement with social justice issues, including civil rights struggles. We now have more than 200 members and an excellent Religious Education program for our children and youth.
Our Sunday services are thought-provoking, with moving music and meaningful traditions. We have strong lay leadership, and enjoy lay-led services during the summer and many times throughout the year.
On the practical side, we have a spacious new wheelchair-accessible building with plenty of parking. You'll find people here dressed in everything from jeans and Ts to dresses and suits, so come as you are and you'll fit right in.
Your children may sit with you through the service or you may take advantage of other options:
Childcare for babies and toddlers.
A "crying room," where parents can sit with their children and listen to the service.
A "Time for All Ages" at the beginning of each service, where Preschool through High School students share in worship time with the rest of the community.
Religious Education classes for Preschool through High School students after "Time for All Ages"
We welcome our new minister: Reverend Lone Jensen Broussard.
New: podcasts of recent sermons.
Our fund-raising auction is set for the evening of Saturday, November 20. Keep watching for more details.
