Mr. C. William Cox, Jr. started the Prosthetics Department at the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital in 1970. Mr. Cox became certified as a Board-Certified Ocularist and a Master of Ophthalmic Prosthetics in 1972 and in 1986 became certified by the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists. He is also past president and director for several terms of the American Society of Ocularists. In 1984, through a mutual agreement, Mr. Cox purchased the Prosthetic Department from the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital forming Cox Ocular Prosthetics.
In the 1980s Mr. Cox’s daughter, Elise Cox Pratt joined the business after graduating from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications. She is certified by the National Examining Board of Ocularists and a member of the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists. Both Bill and Elise are involved with the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Bill is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor and Elise is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Instructor.
